Message from the president

Adrian 120x180 Dear Colleagues

It is a great pleasure to accept the position of President of the International Society of Electrocardiology (ISE) for the period 2017-2019.

I will do my best to help the Society to continue developing, to attract larger audiences, and to promote educational strategies beyond the organization of our annual congress.

I would like to start thanking a group of individuals. First of all, my full recognition to Dr Wojciech Zareba, our past president. Dr Zareba has enriched our Society with fundamental changes to our constitution. His open and democratic way to lead the Society is highly inspiring and I hope to be able to continue on the same path. Dr Zareba has secured the organization of our annual meetings for the next 4-5 years in incredible locations (with great organizers in each location!). Secondly, my gratitude to Dr Larisa Tereschenko, who organized the 44th International Congress on Electrocardiology (ICE) in Portland, last June. She took on the responsibility to organize the renewed joint meeting of the ISE-ISHNE (International Society of Holter and Noninvasive Electrocardiology) which resulted in provoking scientific discussion. We all enjoyed her team’s collegiality and they truly made us feel at home. Sessions were well-attended and abstracts from the meeting will be published online in the Journal of Electrocardiology.

Finally, I would like to thank the colleagues that have finished their term on the Board of ISE. Drs. Van Oosterom and De Ambroggi have made life-long contributions to our Society. We hope they will continue assisting us with their vast experience as part of the new Advisory Board created by Dr Zareba.

I am happy to report that Dr. Tysler will continue as Secretary and Dr. Macfarlane as Treasurer: their experience in ISE is essential to support our structure. For the Membership Board, I will have the pleasure to work with Drs. Potse and Platonov to bring some innovations to our membership structure. New ideas will be discussed with the Board and communicated to you by this channel.

Dr MacLeod has to be recognized as well by helping with all visual communications of our Society through the incorporation of new and modern alternatives for abstract submission, and congress registration. The challenges for the near future are to improve (even more!) our website to secure larger traffic, and to include social media as part of our communications’ strategy.

Four new members of the Council are starting their period (2017-2019) and we want to wish them luck, and to thank them for dedicating their time to the Society: Drs. Birnbaum, Nikus, Locati and Fiol. I am sure that these four individuals will bring fresh ideas and their expertise for the benefit of our Society.

The new President Elect has been chosen during our last meeting. Dr. Antonio (Tom) Ribeiro from Brazil has accepted the position. It will be a great pleasure to work with such a distinguished professional and incredible researcher in the years to come.

We are already working  on the organization of the next ICE meeting which will be held in Chiba, Japan in June 28-30, 2018. Dr. Takanori Ikeda will be our host, and I am sure it will be a fantastic meeting at an incredible location. Please book this date in your agendas; we would love to learn about your work in Electrocardiology!

A separate note for our colleagues from ISHNE. It has been a tremendous pleasure to see you all in Portland! The past president, Dr. Jon Steinberg and the new President, Dr. Niraj Verma have shown true interest in interacting more and having educational programs in common. The construction of a joint meeting, ICE=ISE + ISHNE, will secure better use of our funds and larger audiences for both Societies. During my term, I will work hard along with my colleagues from ISHNE, to secure the continuation of what we started in Portland.

We will use this communication path (the website) to give you news on the Society, news on Electrocardiology, to recommend literature, to discuss new findings and to receive your opinions, concerns and suggestions.

Looking forward to hear from all of you!!!

Best personal regards,

Adrian Baranchuk MD FACC FRCPC FCCS
