Professor Emanuela Teresina Locati is a Cardiologist of the Clinical Arrhythmology Unit and the Electrophysiology Laboratory at the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato in Milan, directed by Professor Carlo Pappone.
She graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan in 1983. At the same University she obtained the Specialization in Cardiology (1985) and the Specialization in Anesthesia and Resuscitation (1988). During her studies, in 1984, she obtained the "Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates" (ECFMG) certificate in Philadelphia, USA and in 1991 she attended the "Cours de Epidemiologie et Statistique Appliquées à la Médécine" (CESAM, CNRS, Paris). In 1994 she obtained a PhD in Cardiovascular Physiopathology and in 1996 she followed a Post-Doctorate Fellowship in Cardiovascular Physiopathology at the University of Milan.
She held the positions of Associate Researcher at the Center for Cardiovascular Physiopathology and Hypertension at the Institute of General Medical Clinic and Medical Therapy at the University of Milan (1979-1996); Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Department of Preventive Medicine, Heart Research, University of Rochester (NY) from 1985 to 1996; Associate Researcher at the Laboratory of Computerized Electrocardiography, Hopital Lariboisière (Paris) from 1980 to 1992 and Associate Researcher, then Adjunct Professor, at the Institute of Cardiology - Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine of the University of Perugia from 1997 to 2000.
From 2000 to 2018 she was responsible for the Remote Control of Implantable Devices and Dynamic Electrocardiography Service and Coordinator of the Clinical Research at the Niguarda Ca' Granda Hospital in Milan.
At the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato since 2019, Prof. Locati is a Consultant Cardiologist, dealing with Clinical, Electrocardiographic and Cardiogenetic Research in the field of Brugada Syndrome, Long QT Syndrome, hypertrophic cardiomyopathies, arrhythmogenic dysplasias, dilated cardiomyopathies and others genetically based heart disease. She is also responsible for managing the Telemonitoring of cardiac implantable devices, dealing with the remote surveillance of about 8,000 patients with implantable pacemakers, defibrillators, resynchronizers and loop recorders.
She is the editor of three books, author of 111 articles in international and national scientific journals (indexed on Index Medicus PubMed), with 30 chapters in books and over 200 invited readings at international and national conferences.
